Under the Red Hood

“I know it is.” She smirks under the hood and releases the other woman’s hand, bringing it back down to rest on her hip. Though Rose could see it, Jade was looking her up and down beneath the red mask, sizing her up and trying to find weaknesses for later reference. 

“What do you want Red Hood?”  She didn’t like this girl.  Not one bit.  Even her stance said she was challenging her.  Way too cocky for Rose’s liking.  She wondered if she’d end up hating Jade even more than Cassie.

She looked the older woman up and down through the white lenses of her hood, not surprised by how little Belinda had changed in the past few years. “… How have you been?” she questioned reaching up to…

“Oh have you?” She held the the hood at her side one hand and brought the other up to shake her hair out. “I’ve been alright since the last time we spoke.” she said, meeting Bel’s gaze. “I actually just came back from the west coast to live in Gotham again.”

” … If you need a place to stay, the Manor is always open to you,” she said, treading lightly. Pissing off Jade was never smart. Bel had trained her from the ground up. Dixie would one day be Lady Bat 2.0, but Jade was just brutal enough to pose a challange to the pair of them.

Jade arched a brow at her former mentor. How was she so easy to fogive her? Even after she almost killed the two of them and Joker in that explosion a couple years beforehand! It’s Bel., her mind insisted. She’d always be kind to her and the other members of the “bat family”, no matter what happened. No. Matter. What. Her gloved fingers gripped the rim hood in her tightly, shifting her weight to her left leg. “Really?” she finally said, her train of thought coming to a stop. She didn’t have an apartment yet. In fact, she hadn’t even began to search.

“Yes, really,” she said, running a hand through her hair. She took a step forward. “I wouldn’t lie about something like this. This isn’t a trap and this isn’t an invitation to join me on Patrol. This is me, doing the right thing for my daughter … “

Jade exhaled slowly as Belinda stepped closer, an odd feeling fluttering in her chest when she heard the word ‘daughter’.”I, um, I’d love to stay at the manor.” she resisted surging toward her mother and hugging her tightly. “Do I get to sleep in my old room?”

“Of course,” Bel said, nodding once. “I’ll have Alice dust it out. We haven’t much … It’s just the way you left it.” Right down to the clutter on the shelves, the open book that Jade never finished reading on the bed, the outfit she had laid out for school the next day … None of it touched, none of it disturbed. Not one bit.
